Bridal Boudoir Photography – The Sexiest Gift for Your Groom!
Happy Monday people!
I know I know… contradiction in terms, right? But Mondays can be happy too! Especially with fall coming, beautiful brides and weddings and gorgeous colors. Autumn is definitely my favorite time of year, and since September is THE biggest wedding month in Colorado, I wanted to share some information with all of you beautiful brides out there!
My work and advice was recently featured on Snapknot’s blog, in several different articles about bridal boudoir. I was thrilled to be featured, and since it was a group feature, there is a lot that I said there, but even more that I didn’t get to say. So while I don’t want this to be too long, I wanted to share my top tips for bridal boudoir photography.
My first tip and the tip that I want to shout from the rooftops – DO NOT WAIT TO BOOK!
I have so many brides that contact me the week before their wedding and would like to have a book for their groom. While I would love to do everything I can to help, sometimes there are things that require some time and pre-planning. I know that you have a lot on your plate right now, but add this into your wedding planning checklist or calendar that you’re using to keep everything straight: EMAIL BROOKE TO SET UP SESSION. Do it right now, I’ll wait.
Is it there? ;) I recently wrote an article detailing everything that goes into a boudoir session. It really does require some work and thought, and a week is just not enough time to have your session ready when you need it. And you want to have an amazing gift for him on your wedding day, right? You can read more – when to book your boudoir session – by clicking here.
You will want to plan on at least six weeks’ time to adequately prepare and get everything printed and ready to go. Does that mean that we can’t do something faster? Of course not. But do you really want the stress of waiting for the lab to complete something because it had to be rushed? Do you want to pay the extra fees that go along with it? Planning ahead will save you stress and money. So seriously, if you didn’t do it two paragraphs ago, put it into your calendar now – EMAIL BROOKE TO SET UP BRIDAL BOUDOIR SESSION. You will thank me later.
Second tip: know what kind of photos you want.
Not necessarily the EXACT photos, but have an idea of what you’re looking for. I work with my clients several weeks before their session to look at photos together and determine the style they are looking for. Dark and mysterious? Eye contact? Laughing and fun? This is NOT necessarily dictated by the type of outfit that you have on. Some photos can be beautiful and not super racy when you’re completely topless or nude. It might seem scary to bare that much, but just because you’re not wearing much doesn’t mean a lot will show. I will NEVER ask you to do anything you are uncomfortable with, and work very closely with my clients to make sure we stay within your comfort level.
Dark and mysterious is something that is sent to me a LOT, although most of my clients don’t necessarily realize that it is the mood they’ve sent until we talk about it!
You don’t have to know exactly what photos or poses you want, but have an idea of the mood you’d like, and the style you prefer. We can mix and match, a lot of times we will do several different looks. But know what you like, and communicate with me so we’re on the same page.
Tip three: make your session personal.
Yes, for a bridal boudoir session, bring your veil. Bring your wedding shoes. Bring your ring! But don’t bring JUST those things. Yes, you are a bride, and we want to celebrate that. But after the wedding, you will not just be his bride anymore but his hot and sexy wife. Have some fun with choosing what to wear, and thing outside the box!
Bridal photos are always gorgeous… remind him of the hot chick he’s marrying.
We will rock your bridal boudoir photos, and make you look amazing. And afterwards, we will move into something else that is fun or sexy. You can read more about what to wear for your boudoir shoot in this category of articles. We write a LOT in this category because it is the number one question I get!
Number four: have your hair and makeup professionally done.
Yes, I know it is an additional cost and when wedding expenses are coming up, it seems like something you don’t REALLY need. But this is a time of your life that while extremely happy, can be very stressful. The extra hour and a half to relax while you are being pampered can help you relax, and will really make a difference in the photos! A good stylist will know what will look good on camera – and there is a huge difference between everyday makeup, and photo makeup!
Last but not least… BE CONFIDENT
Yeah, easier said than done, right? Confidence isn’t just a pill you can take in the morning before your session, I get it. Hiring someone you really trust will do WONDERS for your confidence. Knowing that your images are safe, that you are working with someone that isn’t a super creepy dude ogling you, and being able to really relax – all of these things will make you feel like a million bucks. You will look amazing, I want you to FEEL amazing, and feel like you can do ANYTHING!
Oh and another note – since I know your brain is going there. Do NOT worry about your body and those last five pounds that you might be wishing were gone when you get to the studio. We will pose you in a way to highlight your assets, and minimize any areas that you are uncomfortable with. I’m a curvy girl – I get it. We all have areas that are not favorites. You will have fun and look amazing!
One of my clients told me recently “I felt like I could conquer the world!” It will take some hand holding. It will take some time to relax and feel that way. But when you are working with a photographer that you trust, this is how you should feel when you leave the session. Be confident in yourself, the people you’re working with, and it will show a million times over in the photos.
