Throwback: Featuring the Beautiful Ms. K! | Top Denver Boudoir Photographers
Hello there, party people, happy Thursday! As a top Denver boudoir photographers, I have a special throwback session coming at you today!
Sometimes going through all of the amazing features that we have lined up can seem daunting, but it’s time to make a dent in the stack and showcase another gorgeous client.
You may remember a few years ago that I shared a video about beauty sketches. If you haven’t seen it, click here.
Basically, a sketch artist creates drawings based on two descriptions: one from the people describing themselves, and the other from a stranger that is describing them. And, spoiler alert – the photos are VASTLY DIFFERENT.
I feel like this is something that I see almost every single day, when it comes to my beautiful clients. I watch women walk in, carrying bags and shoes, and they’re nervous. The stories they share with me as one of the top Denver boudoir photographers are astounding, and hit me pretty hard. The things that they’ve gone through, the abuse they’ve endured, and the mean things that have been said to them. Yes, I know that that kind of BS is out there, but I have worked hard to really change my home and my life to incorporate positive people, and these stories hit me.
This beautiful woman came into my studio, nervous and unsure, but she knew she wanted to have fun. To celebrate a milestone birthday and feel confident. And we did JUST that! She booked a session with her friend, which gave her a little boost (we all need friends like that, right!?), and we laughed and walked through her session.
Here is what Ms. K had to say:
How do you feel about your body?
On most days, I feel OK about my body. I’m trying to change the way I see myself. When I turned 30, I made it my mission to love my body and myself regardless of what anyone told me or how badly I felt on any particular day, week, etc. I try to focus on the features that I love rather than the features that I would like to change. I had a hard time believing the compliments that I would get, and always believed the negative feedback whether it was true or not. Two years later, my self-image has certainly improved! Remember that when someone tells you that you’re beautiful, smart, sexy, funny, whatever, believe it, it’s true!
How did you feel about being half naked in front of the camera?
I was extremely nervous, and felt really uncomfortable. I was one of those people that would stand in the corner of the locker room after a workout so that no one could see my bare chest. I always felt uncomfortable undressing in front of my partners, and was worried about being judged. I was also concerned about how the pictures would turn out. I didn’t have any modeling experience. Something about Brooke, the environment, her assistant, and the fact that I had a close friend with me eased my nerves, and after a bit, I got into it!
How did you feel after seeing the photos we created?
I was absolutely amazed. When Brooke said that she had not Photoshopped any of the pictures, I couldn’t believe that I was staring at myself. I saw myself in a new light. It was an eye-opening experience!
What do you wear when you want to feel amazingly gorgeous?
I wear cute underwear and a skirt or dress. I usually wear pants, so when I put on a dress or a skirt, it’s a big deal! I take the time to put on my makeup with care, which I usually don’t wear much of at work.
What’s your best tip for feeling sexy?
Confidence, to be honest with you. The more confident you feel in your own skin, the more attractive you are to yourself and others. Work what you have, and accentuate the features you love.
When you are facing a day feeling kind of blah, what do you do to turn it around and help yourself feel beautiful and confident again?
Positive self-talk, go for a walk, and wear a cute outfit that is not too constricting.
How do you feel about your age?
Oh, I love this question. I am 32 years old, and my 30s have been the best years so far. Turning 30 gave me a freedom that I never believed I would have. I finally felt free, and more confident, like I could take on the world, and no matter what happened, it would all turn out OK.
Do you feel like your age affects how sexy you really are?
Absolutely not. Women of all ages are sexy.
What gets better with age?
Everything! You stop caring about the things that don’t matter, and start focusing on the things that do, like your happiness, and how you present yourself in this world!
What is one piece of advice you would like to share with your younger self?
It will get better, don’t give up, and take it one day at a time. Whatever happens, happens, and you can’t control it, so stop trying to.
What’s the best compliment you ever received?
The compliments that are most memorable to me are the ones that are about my character and personality. I recently had a good friend of mine thank me for being there for her, and how she considers me to be a good friend. This is a person that doesn’t allow many people into her circle of trust. That was the most wonderful thing I could hear, and made my day.
Why did you decide to do a boudoir session?
I did it completely for myself, to build my confidence, and see myself in a new light.
What is the thing you would want to share most with other women when it comes to getting half naked in front of a camera?
Just do it! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience (or maybe more for some), and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Are there any memories that stick out to you that trigger certain feelings about how you feel about your body – negative or positive?
Yes. I dated this guy on and off for 6 years. He was extremely emotionally and verbally abusive, and I believed what he said. In the first year we dated, he repeatedly picked apart my flaws, and reminded me of them regularly. I was at the lowest point in my life, and it took me years to build myself back up. His voice still rears its ugly head at times, but I know better than to acknowledge it other than to tell it that it no longer controls me. I can’t tell you why I stayed with him as long as I did, or went back after I left so many times, but I can tell you that recovery is possible and you can feel good about yourself again. Believe what those who truly love you say, and stay away from the toxicity of those who say they love you but really don’t.
What do you feel when you look at the images now, well after your session?
I look at them every now and then to remind myself that I’m beautiful. It helps on those “blah” days.
Describe yourself in 5 words – what do you do, who are you, a mother, shy, outgoing, adventurous, reserved… tell me about you in 5 words.
I’m adventurous, honest, kind, caring, and both shy and outgoing depending on the situation.
Ms. K thank you so much for your input, I can’t wait to work with you again!
