One Little Word 2020 | Empowering Women Denver
Hey there, gorgeous souls. I hope you’re all healthy and safe, because this lockdown stuff is going to end SOON and I hope to see your gorgeous faces in front of my camera, so I can continue my empowering women Denver work!
Usually, I would share this post and this word with you a little earlier. Like January, when the year is starting and full of possibility. Or maybe even February, if I’m a little behind. But since life is basically chaos right now and we are figuring out how to walk through the craziness, here we are in May. And you know what? Done is better than perfect so I’m embracing it, and I hope that we can all give each other a little grace and kindness right now.
For anyone that isn’t familiar with the concept of One Little Word that might like to read the origin and information from the original creator, Ali Edwards, click here.
New Year’s Resolutions have been shown over and over again to be pretty much useless. If you set them every year and rock them, more power to you and high five, that’s amazing, but for me, they just don’t work. And I know that I’m not alone in this. So instead of setting more resolutions and beating myself up when I don’t reach them over and over again, back in 2008, I started doing one little word. Empowering women Denver means also empowering myself, because I can’t serve my clients and impact the world in a positive way if I’m not at my best.
Basically, this means that you choose ONE WORD for the year to focus on. It becomes a word that is a decision maker, something that is underlying in the tasks that we do every day, and a word that you can use to gauge things that come up in your business. It is a word that is a wakeup call for me – something that when my stress levels are high, or I’m feeling overwhelmed, I can look at this word and remind myself of where and WHO I want to be.
You can read more about past words here:
2008 – Independence
2011 – Confidence
2012 – Action
2013 – Sticktoitiveness
2014 – Fearless
2015 – Thrive
2016 – Revitalize
2017 – Progress… {over perfection}
2018 – Dauntless
2019 – Action
Yes, there are a few years missing. Not because I didn’t do them, but because I didn’t blog about them. That was a really turbulent and crazy time in my life, and I’m happy to have just survived, so I will give myself a pass.
This is year number TWELVE y’all, and while I’m late sharing, I have been trying to incorporate the word into this year. Sidenote and bonus – because I waited until May, I actually have photos of me with my word. Because what else are you going to do when you can’t do anything else – get dressed up and take photos, right?
This word is near and dear to my heart, not only because of what *I* need personally, but because of what I have watched other women in my life go through. My clients, family, friends – empowering women Denver means that I have worked with a LOT of women that struggle with limiting beliefs that hold them back from living their best lives. Yes, I know “living my best life” has become a cliche – but let’s pretend it’s not a weird Instagram hashtag and take it seriously for a few minutes.
My word for 2020 is LIMITLESS.
Yes, I know there’s a movie. And a song, and a TV show, and a book. That kind of goes to show how awesome the word is, right?
And just in case you want an image to share that is NOT me – here is one with the Northern Lights.
I chose it in late December 2019, and it’s so funny that I chose this word because right now, with the pandemic, our world is basically FULL OF LIMITS. Whether you agree with them or not is irrelevant, they’re out there. When all of this happened and we went into stay at home orders, this word was a constant reminder to me that even though I might be limited in some capacities, ultimately my life, my actions, and my dreams are limitless. I can be, do and have anything that I want to have, and it is a reminder for me to step fully into my role of CREATOR in my life, instead of bystander.
Ultimately, that is what we are – CREATORS.
Even if you’re not an artist or a musician or have no desire to delve into the creative arts, you are the creator of your LIFE. YOU get to choose what you want in your life, you get to decide where you go in life. And life is really too short NOT to take control of that power. That’s exactly what it is – power. Are you going to embrace that power, or let someone else have the control and power over your life?
I choose to embrace that power, and live knowing that my options are LIMITLESS. I want to embrace possibility, and let go of things that don’t serve me. And can I just say that MAN when I first heard that, my first thought was – THAT’S SO SELFISH! Until I realized that it is completely self LESS. Because to step into your power as the creator of your life, and let go of things that don’t serve you, means that you can fully embrace yourself and let go of those limits. And THAT is when you can truly serve and impact others.
SO – this is my word for 2020. Limitless.
I’m not perfect at it, and am always a work in progress, but let’s lift each other and remind each other of our power as creators of our lives. If you’re not in the Facebook group of amazing women that encourage and love on each other, click here to join.
And because every article is better with a photo of one of my gorgeous clients and not just of me, I wanted to share a photo of a client who really impacted me. Actually, all of my clients really inspire me. In SO MANY ways. I know that I positively encourage and impact my clients, but I think sometimes they don’t realize just how much they impact me too. This beauty struggled with some negative thoughts, and when she shared some of them with me, I was just STUNNED. She is just beautiful and so kind, and I wanted to put my hands on her shoulder and just speak TRUTH into her face – YOU ARE AMAZING! I didn’t, of course, because consent and boundaries and all of that, but sometimes I just so want to cry and share how powerful and amazing these women are with THEM directly.
Ladies – your lives are limitless. Time to step into that, let go of the bullshit that keeps you back – especially the thoughts in your head – and step into your power. Sometimes, I will need that reminder too – can we all just remind each other?
You are an amazing soul, worthy of everything you could ever possibly want in your life.
Stay safe and healthy through all of this, and remember that even though things might be frustrating right now, and there are limits EVERYWHERE – ultimately, you are limitless and the creator of your life.
LOTS OF LOVE & Adventures,
