Happy Saturday!
I’ve been really trying to keep up with this theme and have been doing a decent job, but I haven’t had time to blog every day. So here’s a quick catch up from yesterday, posted on Facebook:
Day 3 – November 4, 2011 – 29 Days of Thankfulness
Today I am thankful for my health. I am so, SO grateful to be healthy, I realize what a huge blessing that is!
Day 4 – November 5, 2011 – 29 Days of Thankfulness
Today I am thankful for my parents.
I think that we really have a different perspective towards our own parents when we become a parent. We learn that as parents, we do the best we can. And while things have happened in the past that may have hurt or been negative, we realize that when it comes right down to it – if your parents have your best interests at heart, they will truly do they best they can. And they’re not perfect, they’re human. It’s so easy to look at someone’s parenting and say that it’s sub-par, or that “I would NEVER do that” until you’re in that situation. Then it isn’t so black and white anymore.
I went through a little bit of hell on Earth a few years ago, and both of my parents were there for me, more so than I ever thought they would be. No one has a perfect relationship with their parents, everyone has bumps and bruises, but when it comes down to it and you really need someone, they are the people who will be there for you.
When I was pregnant with Kaden, I told both of my parents that I really wanted them to be close to Kaden. I wanted them to spend a lot of time with him – not because I wanted to pawn him off on anyone, but because I wanted him to have that relationship. I’m so fortunate to live near both of my sets of parents, and now my in-laws as well, and Kaden is so incredibly blessed with grandparents.
So today I am thankful for my parents. For the stability when I needed someone. For the $5 to go to Taco Bell when I had no job and nothing else and was hungry. I even borrowed Mom’s car to take that trip to Taco Bell. For the Cadillac that my dad let me borrow when things were REALLY bad and I didn’t even have a car. OH man that was quite the adventure, especially when we tried to tow it because I let the gas get too low and the gas pump went out, and the entire bumper came off of the front. My dad loved that car… and never yelled at me, even though I know it must have eaten him. For the amazing floral arrangements at my wedding, and a mother who was super involved and so distracted on my wedding day because she wanted to make sure that everything was perfect. For Kaden’s amazing grandparents who love him so much.
