Denver Boudoir Photography – Brooke’s Picks – Curvy Lingerie – Corsets!
I did two bridal shows this weekend. That’s right everyone, TWO. Remind me the next time I say I have two bridal shows that I will need a day off afterwards, k? Because WOW I felt like I had been run over by a train. I love doing the shows, but they are a LOT of work! I’m so, SO blessed to have my husband and assistant to help me!
One thing that kept coming up over and over again at the bridal shows was “I want to wait until I lose 20 pounds” or “they don’t really have lingerie for women my size.” Ummm yes. YES they do! And no, you DON’T have to wait until you lose 20 pounds to have a boudoir photo session! Do you think that your kids or husband would love you a little more if you lost those 20 pounds? Of course not. So love yourself as you are, right now! If you want to get into shape or better your health, I’m behind you 100% – but I also want every woman to realize that she is beautiful RIGHT NOW. As she is.
Let me make this a separate line so that there’s some emphasis.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL RIGHT NOW. With your stretchmarks, with your scars, with your extra 20 pounds, with your extra 100 pounds! I really believe that.
When those women told me that at the bridal shows, I showed them several photos of women who were sized 14-20, that I have worked with in the past few months. Every single one of them said “wow really?!” Posing, lighting, and expertise is what will help you to look your best in these photos – it’s not about losing weight. As a curvy girl myself, I get it. And actually this applies to all women – even if you love yourself right now, as you are, there are parts of your body that you’re probably not going to flaunt. For me, it’s my mid-section. I have hot legs, great boobs, and beautiful hair, but I’m probably not going to bare my mid-section because it is an area that isn’t my favorite. Here’s a secret for you curvy ladies – even the thinner women have those insecurities. They may not be the same, but they all have something that they don’t want to necessarily show off. ALL women do. And I work my butt off to make sure that I am sensitive to that while working with my clients. Not only because I’m a woman, but because as a curvy woman ESPECIALLY, I get it!
So with all of that being said, I will step down from my soapbox. I believe so strongly in women loving themselves and other women, and building each other up, but that’s not really what this post is about. I wanted to preface these photos with some information for curvy women. For any woman who has felt insecure about something on her body. Because we’ve all been there.
And honey, they DO make lingerie in your size! One of the perks my clients get is access to me and help picking out exactly what to wear to their session. I get the emails quite a bit – I have a scar on my back, I have upper thighs I don’t like, I have smaller boobs… etc. – what lingerie would look best on me? I wanted to highlight a fantastic option for curvy girls today – CORSETS!
Corsets are no longer a tool of women’s oppression. Women were expected to wear corsets to their husband’s liking many moons ago, thank goodness we have come a long way since then! Now, we can wear them as a super cute piece of lingerie, or for a night out on the town! Corsets really define your shape, and push the girls together too. If you get a corset that isn’t too sheer, you can also wear them with some cute jeans.
Both of these photos are from Torrid, one of my favorite stores. Curvy models, with cute clothing.
Corsets can also be worn with a skirt, and can be a gorgeous addition for a beauty or glamour session!
This photo is from Corsets UK, an online corset specialty shop.
Corsets can be SO fun to look through, and the right corset can be super flattering and make you feel beautiful. I know that it can be frustrating to see these teeny tiny models everywhere with lingerie, wondering if anything will look right on you – and it will! You just need to know where to look, and what to look for. :) Contact me and I can help you choose.
Great info! I love corsets from Torrid. Definitely a fantastic option for those of us who are curvy!
