Best Denver Boudoir Photographers – Throwback Post – Featuring the Stunning Mrs. L!
Sometimes, life gets away from us. This gorgeous client has had SO many things happen since her session, and has decided to share her story, and I’m super excited!
When it comes down to it, being one of the Best Denver boudoir photographers means that I get to be a part of telling someone’s story – and ultimately, that’s what I do. Unfortunately those stories usually end up going down a negative path, because our brains can be so harsh. I want to remind women that they’re NOT the size on their pants, they’re NOT the blemish they woke up with this morning, and they’re NOT everything that their brain tells them they are!
This is a session from a few years ago in my old studio, but I remember Mrs. L clearly. She wanted something super special for her groom, and boudoir is the best groom’s gift, right?! Mrs. L wanted to share her experience and her story, and I can relate SO MUCH to so many parts of it, I am excited to share it with you.
How do you feel about your body?
When I first had my session I had recently gained weight following my wedding and with a diagnosis of PCOS explaining some of my weight gain I was self conscious. After seeing the photos of myself I felt very beautiful and that was an amazing feeling. My husband loves my body but seeing my photos really showed me how beautiful I can be in my own skin. Now that I have had a baby I love my body even more. While I am still over weight, I look at my body in the mirror and think to myself every stretch mark represents the love I have for my child.
What do you love about your body?
I have always loved my butt and my boobs. I always felt they were proportional to my body and they are the two assets that I love the most. Now that I have my son I love my stretch marks too and would almost love to do another session featuring my after baby body.
How did you feel about being half naked in front of the camera?
I was really nervous. I am the kind of person I can walk around my house in the nude but not in front of anyone other than myself and my husband. It was comfortable after you get into it but it, honestly, almost feels like the first time you take your clothes off in front of your boyfriend. You are nervous, wondering about judgement, shy, everything you would never be when you are alone, and it is front of a stranger.
How did you feel after seeing the photos we created?
I love my photos from my session. I even showed them off to my girlfriends at work with the app. I loved the photos, not only did I love me in the photos but I loved that I was able to incorporate the love I have for my husband with his uniforms.
What do you wear when you want to feel amazingly gorgeous?
I have always been the type to gallivant around the house in my underwear but I always feel the most beautiful in a maxi dress I bought after having my son. It has the perfect horizontal strips to hide what needs to be hidden and show off what needs to be shown off. That dress with a scarf or sweater and cute flip flops makes me feel beautiful anywhere I go. I picked my husband up from the airport at 3am from pre-deployment training and felt beautiful in that dress, even though I thought I was going to fall on my face from being too tired.
What’s your best tip for feeling sexy?
My best tip for feeling sexy is that you should feel sexy in what makes you feel sexy. Whether or not you feel sexy in sweats or in lingerie or even in a suit, what makes you feel sexy is loving what you have on or don’t have on and how you carry it. I have learned that since I have had my son, feeling sexy in a great pair of sweats and a cute robe is what my personality really wants now a days, but sometimes I love to put on a great pair of lace undies under my jeans and just know that I am sexy all day and that under my jeans is a surprise for my husband, even if it is on my post baby body.
How do you feel about your age?
I feel old for my age. I am almost 26 and I feel old. I am married and have a baby and I am a family women on a day to day basis. I have always felt that I was born in the wrong generation. I don’t do Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat. I do Facebook and Pinterest and I still believe in phone calls. Lol. So at 26, I feel old. For example, I still buy CD’s. Lol.
Do you feel like your age affects how sexy you really are?
I feel like at 26 I should have that drive to naturally want to feel sexy but I don’t and I don’t know that I ever felt that way. I don’t think age affects how sexy you are. I think how you feel in your own skin at any age is what can make you sexy.
Why did you decide to do a boudoir session?
I decided to do a boudoir session awhile ago. I always wanted to do one but when I was diagnosed with PCOS and was having issues with my body functioning I felt like I was less than a women. The thought of not being able to have a child made me feel like I was less than a women. I decided that in order for me to feel sexy and good about my body I needed someone to show me. I think that this is the best thing I could have ever done.
What is the thing you would want to share most with other women when it comes to getting half naked in front of a camera?
If you are going to get half naked make sure you are comfortable in what you have on. If you want to be sexy in running shorts and a sports bra that is OK. If you want to be totally nude that is OK too. You just have to be comfortable with knowing that you aren’t being judged and I think the photographer is a big part of that. That is partly why I chose Brooke. She has photographed all body types and that immediately made me more comfortable. You also have to remember that you are getting in front of the camera for the most important person, you. As long as you want to do it you can do it.
Are there any memories that stick out to you that trigger certain feelings about how you feel about your body – negative or positive?
I grew up in a family where weight was always pointed out. No matter how skinny I was there was always something to be said. Now even after just having had a baby 8 months ago, I am criticized by family members about my weight. There has always just been a weight complex in my family. Everyone needs to be skinny and perfect and fabulous always and that isn’t how it is. I get very depressed after someone in my family mentions my weight and I hate that feeling but if it is your mother, grandmother or aunt, you feel like you can’t say anything because they are your elders. I always had a negative body image, even now, but I am now learning to take that and turn it into motivation.
What do you feel when you look at the images now, well after your session?
I now look at those photos and think “man I am hot.” Of course my husband echos that. I still love those images and I love how I looked and felt that day. I wish I could just be that sexy every morning when I wake up but I think if I can feel it inside every now and then I can carry it on the outside.
