Colorado Boudoir – Featuring the Gorgeous Mrs. L
Oh Mrs. L – what an awesome woman! We laughed so hard, it was SO much fun to work with her for an amazing groom’s gift!
Mrs. L responded to one of my Colorado boudoir model calls in 2014. I had just moved into my new studio, and wanted to have some pictures using the new space! She came in with some creative ideas, and I was finally able to talk her into some higher heels!
So many of my clients come in and tell me they don’t wear heels. Look, I get it – I don’t either. They hurt like hell, and I’m not going to buy a ton of them just to sit in the closet. BUT – trust me, they look amazing in photos. Heels transform your legs to really show them OFF! Mrs. L is an athlete, so the thought of being in heels was foreign to her, and she wasn’t too keen on trying it for her Colorado boudoir session. But she did, and loved them! She even mentioned it to me afterwards:
Oh and you really do need SUPER high heels! I am a tall girl and I don’t really wear heels, but thankfully Brooke had some stiletto heels that I could borrow! The higher shoes make your legs look way better in the photos.
What can I say, a kickass pair of heels is definitely a must. I call them ITA shoes…. they’re definitely not walking shoes. If you want to know what ITA stands for, well, let’s talk. If you already know – NAUGHTY you, I love it!
This gorgeous lady doesn’t usually wear a lot of makeup, she actually shared this with me afterwards:
I wasn’t sure if paying to have my hair and makeup done would be worth it… but it sure was!!!! Definitely splurge the extra money and get your hair and makeup done- it makes such a difference and even though you feel like your face is caked with makeup (I usually don’t wear any makeup), it doesn’t look that way at all in the photographs.
Her session started as a surprise for her husband to be, but she had so much makeup on when she got home, she spilled the news! He joined us for the reveal, I was a little surprised to see him until she explained it. She was nervous it would look weird in photos, but was so happy with how it looked. Makeup can feel like a LOT when it comes to photos – whether for your Colorado boudoir session, glamour session, or wedding photography, but if you have an amazing stylist, it will result in some gorgeous photos.
Mrs. L has such an amazing smile, I can’t wait to share the photos! Here is a little of what she had to say:
Describe your body in 5 words:
Strong, boxy, long/lanky, tanned, and bootylicious ;)
How did you feel about being half naked in front of the camera?
I thought it would feel really awkward, but Brooke does a great job at coaching you through every pose so you don’t really have time to think about being half naked. She focuses you on your task at hand!
How did you feel after seeing the photos we created?
I was amazed! I couldn’t believe how great they came out! The way Brooke positions your body during the shoot really shows off all the positive aspects. And I would DEFINITELY recommend getting your hair and makeup done. It really just puts the icing on the cake for the photos.
What gets better with age?
My confidence has gotten better with age. When I was younger I was always worried about fitting in- having the “hip” clothes, the “cool new” shoes etc. Now I am more self assured and realize that people will like me for who I am regardless of what material possessions I have.
Why did you decide to do a boudoir session?
I knew it would be a great surprise for my husband because a boudoir session doesn’t seem like something I would do. I decided to book my session with Brooke because she made it very clear that boudoir photos are about capturing beauty – it’s not a Playboy Bunny sex shoot.
What is the thing you would want to share most with other women when it comes to getting half naked in front of a camera?
Look around online for photo ideas– you’ll start to realize what vibe you want your photos to have… And then you can tweak the photo example to make it more personal. For example, my husband plays lacrosse so I wanted to somehow involve lacrosse into the photos… I found a picture of a girl standing with a baseball bat and swapped out the bat for a lacrosse stick and voila! It was one of his favorite pictures. I didn’t want my photos to be too racy, but looking around online helped me find ideas for the sexy-cute look I wanted.
What do you feel when you look at the images now, well after your session?
All I can remember was how fun that day was!
Is there anything else that you would like to share about your story, why you did your session, or your overall experience?
Bringing my husband with me to the reveal was really fun! It was fun to see what images he liked compared to what ones I liked. I’m glad he came because that way he got to pick what images he wanted in the book- I probably would have picked ones that weren’t his favorites! — I would also say- listen to Brooke’s advice that the taller the high heel the better! I didn’t really believe this advice when I was reading it before my session because I am a tall person and I never wear super high heels, but now that I’ve seen some of my photos with my high heels compared to the photos where I borrowed some high heels from Brooke… the photos with the 3″ heels (or whatever height Brooke had) look much, much better!
Such an awesome woman, we had a ton of fun! Shall we see some of these super high heel photos?
Thank you so much for trusting me with these amazing photos, Mrs. L, and for being so willing to share! I can’t wait to work with you again!
