Boudoir Photography Denver – 2016’s Amazing Ladies!
Wow.
If one word summed up 2016 completely, I think that would definitely be it. I’ve seen social media posts and articles talking about how much 2016 sucked – and yes, it was hard in a lot of ways. But I think it’s really easy to look at the past couple of months that are fresh in our minds, and forget all of the good that happened in between.
Was 2016 difficult? Sure. There are so many circumstances and events that happened that were completely beyond our control, and it is hard to accept the things we cannot change. However, the end of year blog posts have forced me to really look back at memories and events, and focus on the amazingness that happened and that I was fortunate to be a part of.
I never did end of year blog posts until a couple of years ago. They seemed so overwhelming to me, and I didn’t really know how to set them up. This year I am doing something completely different, and including a video that I really, really love, and actually brought me to tears.
The point is: I force myself to go back and look at EVERYTHING.
Not just the past couple of months. Not just the bad. Not just the good. Not just the difficult or challenging. But truly, EVERYTHING.
We all have our filters and perspectives that color how we see things, but to look at EVERYTHING opens our minds to realities that we may have forgotten. That maybe, just maybe, 2016 wasn’t the shitshow that is portrayed online and in media. That maybe 2016 was a banner year, with ups and downs, like the rest of life.
This year, I have had the pleasure of working with women and couples from all walks of life in my boudoir photography in Denver.
Moms, students, scientists, fiances, grandmothers, stay-at-home moms, expecting mothers, and more. I was going to start typing out everything that came to mind and realized the list will be so insanely long that I will just show you instead.
Compiling these photos brought me to tears. Remembering the stories behind these gorgeous women made me laugh and cry. Knowing their reactions to seeing themselves as beautiful for the first time in awhile – or for the first time EVER – gives me goosebumps. Recalling the laughter during the session that caused us to have to stop and fix makeup because we were laughing so hard we were crying, brought back all of those giggles. Thinking of the circumstances in the session, like wedgies, me falling while trying to get “the shot,” weird noises while someone moves on furniture that sound like farts, moving someone’s hand so it doesn’t look hilarious in the photo, grass up the butt while walking in a field, trying to balance lights and crystals in one hand and my camera in another, holding a truck door open with my knee to try to get the shot, trying to avoid a prop looking crazy phallic, shooting while scantily clad myself in a dry lake bed, moving a little slower so one of my expectant mamas didn’t strain herself and have the baby in the studio, and a group shot with four amazing women in lingerie… the memories in these photos are priceless.
It is amazing to see everything together, but to really honor my beautiful clients and the memories, I created a video where you can see every single photo, one by one.
I am overwhelmed with gratitude as I write this. There are so many crazy things coming up in 2017, that are awesome, but also scary. I know, without a doubt, that everything will work out wonderfully. I will continue to work with the most amazing women in the world. I will continue to move forward in my business and help to remind women and couples of connections that are essential in life. For women, a connection to themselves that often gets lost in everyday life. A connection to that sexy woman inside that is amazing and worthy of all of the blessings coming. For couples, the connection with each other that transcends the everyday life that takes it over.
To my beautiful clients, thank you. Thank you so much for reaching out and doing something that is SCARY. For trusting me to capture these amazing moments in your lives, for walking past the nerves and mean voices in your head that tell you you can’t do this. YOU DID. And you KICKED ASS. And you will face something scary again, and you will go through it, and you will KICK ASS ALL OVER AGAIN. Thank you for being brave enough to share your photos with the world!
I love you all, I really, really do.
I am so grateful for everyone that I worked with in 2016, and can’t wait to see you all in 2017!
