The Magic We Forget We’re Allowed to Have | Colorado Boudoir

Magic, Mess & Meaning…

You know those tiny things in life that make absolutely no logical sense, but they light you up in a way you can’t even explain?

For me, it’s a set of salt and pepper shakers shaped like magic wands.

Yes.

Actual. Wands.

I also gave them as stocking stuffers last year for Christmas – and once my family understood, they were a hit!

When you season your dinner, you’re literally waving a wand over your food like some chaotic domestic sorceress. The first time I saw them, I felt this electric flutter in my chest — the same one that hits that quiet part of me that still believes in magic.

So I bought them. Obviously.

Every time I pick one up and sprinkle salt over my meal, it makes me smile, it doesn’t matter who is around.

I feel the tiniest spark. A flicker. A whisper:

“You’re allowed to have joy in the tiny, silly places.”

Psst… by the way – if you want to see a video complete with a Glinda (from Wicked) sound that my daughter chose specifically for this purpose, you can see it on TikTok or Instagram.

Places that make others roll their eyes.

And really? I don’t care anymore.

Because I spent too many years choosing “practical” over magical.

“Reasonable” over expressive.

“Adult” over alive.

I dimmed the parts of myself that were too loud, too bright, too emotional, too imaginative – and for what? To be more palatable? To take up less space? To make sure no one felt uncomfortable around my joy?

Joy is not silly. Magic is not silly. Letting yourself feel alive is not silly.

Tiny pockets of whimsy in your day are not frivolous — they’re medicine.

They remind you:

You’re allowed to be playful. You’re allowed to crave beauty. You’re allowed to have fun.

You’re allowed to want things that make no sense to anyone but you.

And guess what…

You’re allowed to salt your dinner with a wand if it makes you feel like the beautiful badass you are.

Women shrink their joy all the time – because someone rolled their eyes, or made a comment, or acted like their excitement was inconvenient.

I may or may not know a thing or two about this. Maybe.

And slowly, without even noticing, we tuck away the pieces of ourselves that make us feel most alive.

I’m done with that chapter.

Completely done.

This year – and especially right now – I’m choosing the magic. The softness. The play. The spark. The silliness. The joy. Even if no one else understands it. Even if it looks “extra.” Even if it’s not practical.

Because the reality is – I’m extra AF. (For those of you that may not understand that acronym… that stands for AS FUCK.)

And here’s the part where this ties into boudoir, into womanhood, into everything I see inside my Colorado boudoir studio:

Women don’t lose their magic.

They stop giving themselves permission to use it.

Colorado boudoir sessions with me aren’t about the lingerie or the lighting. (Although seriously I have some new pieces that need to be worn so you should come wear them…)

They’re about the moment a woman remembers she is allowed to feel joy, sensuality, softness, boldness, and delight – not because she earned it… but because it’s HERS.

When a woman steps into her session and lets herself soften, or sparkle, or surrender, or reclaim that inner fire she’s been ignoring – that’s the same magic as waving a wand over your dinner.

Small.

Silly.

Transformative.

So here’s your reminder:

Buy the ridiculous thing.

Wear the sparkly thing.

Say the bold thing.

Dance in your kitchen.

Salt your dinner with a wand.

Book the session.

Let yourself feel alive again.

Magic matters.

You matter.

And you’re allowed to choose joy — even in the smallest, silliest, sparkliest ways.
