Sunrise Colorado Mountain Boudoir – Cold, Wild, and Completely Worth It
Some photo sessions stay with you long after the images are delivered. This was one of those.
Of course, it helps that my mother shows THIS PARTICULAR PHOTO to everyone she sees when she wants to explain exactly what I do.

These photographs were taken in the mountains at sunrise, on one of those mornings where the cold cuts straight through your layers and settles into your bones. The drive UP the mountain was somewhat terrifying – in the dark, on a teeny tiny road.
We were tired. We were freezing. The light was changing by the second. And none of us were particularly comfortable.
And still, we showed up.
There’s something about photographing women in wild, exposed places that strips away pretense. There is no warm studio, no controlled environment, no illusion of ease. The mountains do not care if you are cold or unsure or doubting yourself. The sun comes up when it comes up. The moment either happens or it doesn’t.
This Colorado mountain boudoir session required trust.
Trust in the process. Trust in me. Trust in herself.

The images from this morning were later featured in a publication, but the feature itself was never the point. What mattered was the experience of standing in that cold air, wrapped in quiet and breath and early light, and choosing to stay present anyway.
That is something I see again and again in my work. Women doing hard things. Not dramatic things. Not performative things. Just quietly choosing to stay instead of shrink. Choosing to be seen even when it would be easier to retreat.
People often assume that powerful images come from comfort. From perfect conditions. From ease.
In reality, some of the most meaningful photographs are made when things are slightly uncomfortable. When you are aware of your body. When you are awake. When you are fully in the moment because you have to be.
This session was cold. It was early. It was physically uncomfortable. And it was also grounded, intentional, and deeply human.
I’m sharing these images here not just because they were featured, but because they represent a kind of work I’m deeply proud of. Work that values experience as much as outcome. Presence as much as polish.
Sometimes the magic isn’t in perfection.
Sometimes it’s in showing up anyway, breath visible in the air, trusting that the light will meet you where you are.
And sometimes, freezing your ass off at sunrise is exactly where that happens.

I’m so honored to have these and hundreds of other images published in magazines throughout the world.
