Why Confidence Is Not Required to Book a Boudoir Session in my Colorado Boudoir Studio
I get a LOT of questions from potential clients, and even my booked clients before their sessions, and I’m absolutely here for it.
Somehow, some of these questions come up when I’m out and about, and someone inevitably asks “what do you do?” When I explain, one of the most common responses is: “Oh I could never do that, I don’t have the confidence.”
Every time I hear this, I want to take someone’s hands in mine – to be clear, I don’t, because – boundaries and consent – and say
Confidence is not a prerequisite or requirement for a boudoir session… it’s often the RESULT.
I have worked with thousands of women in my Colorado boudoir studio, and every week my clients show up nervous, unsure and questioning whether they’re “ready.”
They’re not models.
They’re not walking in feeling fearless and on top of the world.
They’re everyday, real women, doing something outside of their comfort zone because something inside of them is asking for more. Itching to remember who they were before the world told them who they SHOULD be, and wanting to either remember that woman – or embrace a new version of themselves.
Confidence doesn’t come first. Willingness does.

Most of my beautiful clients book a boudoir session during a transition.
After a breakup.
After a divorce.
After having kids.
After years of putting everyone else first.
Often they don’t FEEL confident – they feel disconnected from themselves. And even for my clients who ARE feeling confident and want to embrace that – sometimes the nerves hit the night before, and they’re working to move PAST the little voice in their head that might be saying unkind things beforehand.
Boudoir is not about pretending you love every part of your body, it’s not about FAKING it until you make it. (Sidenote – I did a video about that, I have LOTS of thoughts about that particular phrase, that’s a whole different article.)
It’s about seeing yourself clearly and kindly, often for the first time in a long time, and sometimes for the first time EVER.
In my Colorado boudoir studio, we build confidence during the session, not beforehand. Professional hair and makeup, gentle guidance with posing, expression and movement – and a TON of laughter and my ridiculousness in trying to show you poses – you are never expected to know what you’re doing. That’s my job, and let me just say – I’m pretty fucking great at it.
Your job is simply to show up as you are.

And here’s something important that doesn’t get said enough: waiting until you feel confident often keeps women stuck.
Not just in boudoir sessions, but confidence to do SO MANY THINGS.
To wear a bikini to the pool with your kids.
To wear the dress that fits really well and you reallllly love, but might be a little outside of your comfort zone.
To take the trip by yourself, because your partner won’t go with you but you have dreamed of going.
To GET IN THE DAMN PHOTOS with your family. (another soapbox moment I could talk for hours on…)
Confidence grows through action, not the other way around.
When you do something brave before you feel ready, your nervous system learns that you are safe. That you can trust yourself. That you don’t have to shrink, or prove yourself in some way before moving forward.
A boudoir session is not about changing your body or proving anything to anyone else. It’s about reclaiming space in your own life, and in your own brain. It’s about remembering that you are allowed to be seen, even when you feel unsure.
If you’re waiting to feel confident before booking a boudoir session in my Colorado boudoir studio, consider this your permission slip: you don’t have to be confident to begin.
You just have to be willing.
And that willingness might be the most powerful thing you give yourself.

If this resonated,
The work I do – in my photography, writing and coaching – is rooted in safety, presence and self-trust.
Boudoir, for me, is not about forcing confidence or becoming someone else.
It’s about creating space where women don’t have to shrink, perform, or override themselves in order to be seen.
