Couples Boudoir Photography – FAQ – What happens if…
Well hello there, Tuesday, and all of you fantastic people!
I have been getting a LOT of questions lately about couples boudoir photography, and really, there are so many things to consider.
I wanted to chat today about a question that some of my dearest clients have asked me. And while they have asked me because they know me and they’re comfortable asking, I’m fairly certain that it is a question that SO MANY of my couples have, but are afraid to ask. It can be embarrassing, and is something that most people don’t want to talk about with someone they don’t know.
So here we go, a blog post just putting it out there, so if you HAD the question and didn’t want to ask, I’m answering anyway. And if you didn’t have the question and you read it and you’re like OH MY GOSH I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT THAT!?! Now you know.
When it comes to Couples Boudoir Photography with a male participant… what happens if he gets aroused?
Ooh damn, I said it, I’m talking about it, look out world, here I go, let’s talk penis!
I was trying to find a hilarious meme to put here with Dr. Ruth, but I promise you, do not Google penis talk.
I get this question quite a bit, especially from my past clients that had an individual boudoir session and now want to do a couples session. My clients know they can ask me anything, even if it is slightly embarrassing, and I know that if they’re wondering, that you may be too!
SO, how do we handle this, what happens if things pop up when it’s just not time for that? Is it middle school all over again? Break out the duct tape? (Indian Summer movie reference there and even remembering that is making me feel old. Asking for help with the name on Facebook was definitely an experience!)
Sidenote – as a female who would never dream of duct taping my lady parts, that just sounds painful and I can’t believe a kid would do that.
What happens if he gets aroused and we have a “situation.”
There are a few things to consider in this situation, and a few reasons that this typically doesn’t happen. As a matter of fact, it has never been an issue in any of my couples boudoir sessions so far! I know it seems surprising, but here is why.
1. What looks amazing and super sexy doesn’t always feel super sexy.
Meaning that you may be in a position with your partner that looks amazing and will be one of your favorite photos, but it might not be comfortable. So you might find that you’re not super relaxed, meaning the situation doesn’t really call for a full salute.
2. I am all up in your face.
While you are enjoying your partner and holding that spot for photos, I am moving around you to get different angles. You grabbing her butt, kissing her neck – I want to get all of the details, which means lots of different angles in a very short timeframe. Again, this isn’t something that is super sexy or particularly arousing. One of my couples were positioned so that I was on one side of him with my camera, and she was on the other, and he said “this is not how I pictured my threesome.” SO TRUE! I may or may not have a video of him motorboating her that I have permission to share, talk me into it.
I was going to put in a number 3 here and say BECAUSE I’M HILARIOUS, but my husband says I’m not, so that is up for debate.
Bottom line: this isn’t an issue that has ever POPPED UP in any of my sessions.
However, if it were to happen, let me be super clear: it’s not a big deal, and is not a reason to be embarrassed. If we need to, we will take a break and get some water and talk about how bad the Twilight movies were for awhile. That’s enough to kill any stiffies for sure.
I realize I’m making light of this, because, well, sometimes we all have to laugh at situations. We laugh a LOT during couples boudoir sessions, and have a ton of fun. If this were to happen, it is something that is perfectly natural, and wouldn’t be cause for concern for me at all. I almost always have an assistant on hand for couples sessions, and one of my rules for couples boudoir photography is that he keeps his underwear on. If it happens, it happens, and we take a break, get some water, and reconvene to get more awesome shots.
Couples sessions are relaxed and fun, like all of my sessions! Do we get some steamy shots? Definitely. However, I want all of my clients to leave knowing that they had an experience that was fun and adventurous, something that pushed them a little outside of their comfort zone.
And because every post is better with a photo, how about a steamy couples photo?
